Prayer List

We were all together again this past Wednesday, so while there are two lists, they aren't divided into Senior and Junior Youth. In fact, some of them wrote their names on both lists... Go fig.

Additionally, continue to pray for me (Paul) as I continue to recover from my neck surgery in the coming weeks. Yes, I am somewhat better, but I still have a lot of healing to do before I'm 100%.

Finally, please be in prayer for us as we prepare for the LibertyYouth and Kids Christmas Play coming up on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 5PM. We have rehearsal from 6PM to 7PM on Wednesday, and then one last chance to hammer things out right before the presentation on Sunday. Pray for Mary Kelley especially, since she has shouldered the bulk of planning and directing it this year, as well as for Cindy, Rhonda, Ann, Amy, Tina, Jessica, and all the other adults we'll put to use before it's over.

Prayer List Plus

Wednesday, December  4th was our International Missions Focus Night, and all the LibertyYouth were together in one class. The list below is missing some people because the total headcount in the youth room was 30 that night.

Additionally, my (Paul's) surgery to alleviate a herniated disc in my neck has come and gone. I am recovering well, though I still feel like I have a golf ball caught in my throat. I had to stay home from church today because I'm not supposed to ride in a car for a week, but I plan on cutting that short by a day to be back at church on Wednesday night (12.11.2013).

Be in prayer for the LibertyYouth and Children as we prepare for the Christmas Presentation which is on December 22 at 5PM.

Prayer List

Pray also for Brent; he was sick and couldn't be with us this Wednesday.

We had a total turnout of 21, which would have made for a Senior Youth class of 8 and a Junior Youth class of 13, but we actually met together in one big group. The Jrs. got a taste of the older class, and the Srs. got a reminder of how far they've come (hopefully). ;)

Prayer List

It's pretty much the first chance I've had to sit still in the vicinity of my scanner since Wednesday. Forgive me for not posting this sooner, and pray I'll do better in the future.

We also had a great turnout for the Food Fight youth social last night. I think I counted 28 heads total, and we were missing some of our regulars.

The final details of the End of Summer, Back to School, Welcome In/Up Pool Party are finally set. The party is THIS Saturday (8/17) at Stan and Amy Coleman's pool from 5PM to 8PM. There will be food and fun. You only need to bring yourself, friends if you have any, and a towel. Wear a modest swimsuit, please.

Here's how to get to Stan and Amy's house for the party this Saturday:

In the event of rain, we'll have it indoors at the church building. Call, text, email, Facebook message, or tweet me (Paul) with any questions.

The following is a flyer for a youth event hosted by Tallaweka Baptist Church on August 10th. This is here for your information, and youth are encouraged to attend. However, we are not planning to attend together as a group. If you desperately want to go and cannot find a ride, let me (Paul) know. There is a $2 admission due at the door.

Christmas in August Youth Social

For this month's Youth Social, we are celebrating Christmas in August! We'll have dinner and a good time playing like it's the most wonderful time of the year. We'll also be receiving gifts to send to a Southern Baptist North American Mission Board missionary who serves as a Hospice chaplain. Please bring any or all of the items on this short "wish list":

Pocket tissue packs
Notepad(s)
Pen(s)
Pencil(s)
Cellophane wrap

If you can't get to the store on this short notice, any small cash gift would be good.

Don't feel like you have to bring something to participate. Come be part of the celebration even if you can't bring something. We would rather have you full-hearted and empty-handed than miss out on the gift of your presence.

As (almost) always, Youth Social starts immediately after the 6pm worship service.

The John in July Challenge

John in July
For the next four Wednesday nights (July 10, 17, 24, & 31), we'll be studying some major themes from the writings of the Apostle John. The topics we'll be looking at and major Scripture focus for each week are as follows:
  • The Light Has Come - John 1:1-18, 8:12; 1 John 1:5-10
  • You Must Be Born Again - John 3; 1 John 2:28-3:10, 5:1-5
  • God's Children Love Him - John 10:1-18, 15:1-11; 1 John 2:15-17, 4:13-21; 2 John; Revelation 19:6-16
  • God's Children Love Each Other - John 13, 15:12-27, 21:15-19; 1 John 3-4; 3 John
The Challenge
You are hereby challenged to read all the writings of John during the month of July. There are 21 chapters in The Gospel According to John, 5 chapters in The First Epistle of John, The Second and The Third Epistles of John are not divided into chapters so they count as only one each, The Revelation of Jesus Christ has 22 chapters, which gives us a total of 50 chapters. Reading just 2 chapters each day, you can finish the whole book in 25 days (so you'll have to pick up an bit each day to make it through in July); 5 chapters a day will bring you through in 10 days, which you could do twice before August gets here.

I want to encourage you to take up this challenge as a way to be disciplined to grow in Christian maturity by discovering God in the Bible. You have far more free time during the summer, and you would do well to invest some of it in feeding your soul. If you can play video games or troll Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/whatever new time-suck I don't know about yet, then you've got the ability to read and the time to read your Bible. Make good choices.

The Reward
Studying the Bible is it's own reward. Sorry, not sorry. However, we are going to keep track of how we're doing on the challenge, and there will be some sort of tangible reward at the end for those who complete it. I'm not sure what it'll be, but it'll be a nice bonus of some kind. It's like when we give Peter a piece of candy for going poop in the potty; sure, he should do it just because, but rewarding him helps him learn of the inherent benefit of the action. I will promise the reward will be more than a Peep or a few M&Ms.

Suggested Reading and Watching/Listening

From Lifeway and Dr. Dan DeWitt:

The Apostle John once said that his greatest joy was to know that his children walked in truth. This is surely the supreme ambition, or at least it should be, for every Christian parent. But secular challenges will come and we carry within us a nagging hunch that our teenagers will face them head on in ways that we can hardly imagine. Every God-fearing, Bible-believing, church-attending parent wants equipped progeny who are prepared to "understand their times," not unlike the sons of Issachar (see 1 Chronicles 12:32).
I'd like to offer three broad attitudes parents should develop about the gospel that can serve as boundaries for how they instruct their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

...The Gospel Is True...The Gospel Is Powerful...The Gospel Is Absolute... (keep reading)

I had other articles set aside, but my iPhone ate them. : (

You would also benefit from this sermon by David Platt: HERE

Prayer List and Announcements (Updated)

Pray for all the seniors graduating in the coming week, especially our own Dwayne, Alexis, Anna, Ked, and Scott. Senior recognition Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church is THIS Sunday, May 19.

Pray also for Kaitlyn, one of our Jr. Youth. She is having Kidney stone surgery in B'ham as I type this.

*Update*
The Jr. list was AWOL, but I found it at the church this week. Here it is:

Prayer Lists

Finally, I'm getting a still, relatively quiet moment to post last week's prayer lists!

Please pray for me (Paul) as I struggle to balance photographing a lot of graduations, getting all the usual LibertyYouth stuff done, prepping for the BBQ chicken sale, prepping for StudentLife Camp, prepping forVBS, adjusting to being a father of two, and more.

Also pray for me (Paul). This is a REALLY busy month for me shooting graduations on top of getting ready for the BBQ chicken sale, StudentLife Camp, VBS, and other summer youth activities plus other home and family stuff.
