Three immediate requests:
1) Pray for Olivia, daughter of Billy Wilson (Pastor of Music and Youth of East Tallassee Baptist Church), she is undergoing a bone marrow biopsy today to rule out the possibility of her having leukemia.
2) Pray for Kay, a relative of the Rigsbys, it's a long story, but her doctors are trying to bring her out of a medically induced coma and it isn't going like expect/hoped/planned.
3) Pray for me as I drive to and from a graduation in Gadsden today in the midst of a potential outbreak of severe weather.

You'll notice there are two prayer lists below. One is our junior LibertyYouth (5th-8th grade) and the other is our senior LibertyYouth (9th-12th grade). There, you shouldn't be confused now.

Also, please notice on the announcement sheet that we have an event coming up. I got some feedback that a "Late Night" event would be preferable to an actual lock-in, so that's what we are doing. We'll have dinner about 6pm and then do our thing until about midnight. I expect everyone to be on there way to their own bed by no later than 1am. LibertyYouth are encouraged to bring either a salty OR a sweet snack. Friends are also very welcome, and they don't even have to bring anything.

Halloween Letter to Our Neighbors and Prayer List

This post is back-dated.

My bad for letting last week get away from me. I knew there wasn't anything new on this list, so I was almost about to not post it at all. But then I changed my mind. I also wanted to post the letter we stuck in  a few doors around the Liberty community. It was supposed to be a sort of "reverse trick-or-treating," but nobody around the church looked like they were expecting trick-or-treaters. So it was kind of a bust in that regard, but I think it was a good experience for our youth to even get a taste of cold-call evangelism even though no one ever opened the door. We did this because LibertyYouth love others like they love themselves.

The letter read thusly:
 Hey Neighbor!


We are LibertyYouth [graphic logo was used in actual letter]! That is to say, we are young people from Liberty Baptist Church. Halloween is typically about people coming to you wanting candy, but we wanted to offer you something much sweeter. Do you know the gospel?

Maybe you've been in church four times a week since nine months before you were born, or maybe you've never set foot in a church-house. That's all beside the point. We want to know that you know the gospel, the good news about Jesus the Christ, because it has changed our lives, and we hope it might change yours too.

There is one true, living, creator God, and He is good. Because He made us, we are all accountable to him for how we live. We have all fallen far short of His perfect standard. We fail to do all the good we could do, and we choose to do things we know are wrong. Because God is good, He must punish us for breaking His law. Because God is infinitely worthy of our obedience, the punishment for our disobedience must be eternal for there to be justice. That's a problem, but Jesus is the answer. God took on human flesh and was born as a baby, lived a life of perfect obedience to God's law, performed miracles to prove His authority, and then died as a willing sacrificial payment for our—yours, mine, everybody's—disobedience. But He didn't stay dead. He rose from death back to life to show that the payment was complete and that we could have new life through Him. But you only get this new life by giving up your old life. You must turn your back on your old life and choose to follow Christ as your master if you want to claim Him as your Savior. He knows you can't do it on your own, so He has promised to put His own Spirit in you. God has done all the work. Do you believe it? Will you follow Him?

If so, that's great! If this is new, then you should tell someone...forget that, tell everyone. If you already live as a follower of Christ, that's great, too! Either way, if you aren't an active member of some other church in the community, then we'd like to invite you to join us, Liberty Baptist Church. If you are a member of another church, that's awesome, we love other churches.

Sweet things, the dead being raised, a Spirit bringing supernatural power to your life... Who knew Christianity was so spooky? Happy Halloween, and God bless you.

Prayer Lists, Fall Festival, and Judgement House

A couple of announcements about things you SHOULD already know about.

First: Saturday is when the LibertyYouth (plus interested kids and adults) will be going to Carrville Baptist Church's Judgement House. Here's the schedule:
5:45pm - Gather at Liberty Baptist Church parking lot and load into vehicles
6:00pm - Leave Liberty going to Carrville
6:15pm - Arrive at Carrville Baptist Church and get check-in
6:30pm - First Group enters Judgement House
6:45pm - Second Group enters Judgement House
7:30pm - First Group exits Judgement House
7:45pm - Second Group exits Judgement House
8:00pm - Go to dinner at location to be determined by people who actually show up
9:00pm - Return to Liberty Baptist Church parking lot

Second: Sunday is the Liberty Baptist Church Fall Festival
Workers need to be in the fellowship hall no later than 4:15pm for updates and instructions.
Start time is 5pm. Dinner is at 6pm. Fall Festival ends at 8pm. Then we clean up and go home.

First: We started our study of the book of Galatians this Wednesday. We are all challenged to read the book of Galatians this week (and over and over in the weeks to come). It's only 6 chapters long and will take a slow reader just over 30 minutes in one sitting. If we read it, then we can discuss it. Otherwise, I (Paul) have to do most of the talking.

We're missing a few weeks from May to the present. We failed to pass a prayer list a couple times in the midst of trying to learn songs leading up to Vacation Bible School, and there were no lists for the weeks of StudentLife Camp and VBS itself. I've tucked the other missing lists somewhere, and I'll back post them if/when I find them.

Prayer List - Belated

Hey Everybody,
Sorry the prayer list is getting posted so late. I was sick on Wednesday, and I've been super busy the whole week on top of trying to get over my sick. Now that I've got a moment, I'm taking it to post here.

I also wanted to say a big "THANK YOU" to the parents who came to the LibertyParents, Etc. meeting this afternoon. Pray that we will have more and more parents involved in what we do as the LibertyYouth in the future. Please also pray that I will find ways to connect with those parents who just can't make it to meetings because of work or other reasons.
